mysqldump gives error 1016

We currently run a software application on our Win2k3 server that had required us install xampp (mysql 5.0.51b, php 5.2.6, apache 2.0). A newer release of our software just came out, so prior to upgrading, I wanted to back up our db just in case we had any issues. Upon executing the mysqldump command, I got the following error:

"mysqldump: Got error: 1016: Can't open file: '.\infoathand\workflow_operation_au
dit.frm' (errno: 24) when using LOCK TABLES"

I've tried to back up using phmyadmin, but there are so many options when I try it and since I am new to that interface I am unsure what boxes to check/uncheck. I have ran an optimize and repair on the database as well, but that didnt help either. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
