unable to view PHP file in Firefox

I have installed xampp correctly and currently have the XAMPP control panel open and showing Apache running.
I have created an index.php file and placed in c:\xampp\htdocs\MyWebApp. I try to open this file in Firefox and I get the message "Object not found, the requested URL was not found on this server. Up in the address bar I see the browser trying to open http:/localhost/MyWebApp/index.php.
Any ideas as I have followed every avenue to solve this without success
