Pardon me If I am missing something here. Tried the search as well.

I downloaded the update pack for 1.7.2 to 1.7.3 but the readme.txt instructions is for a clean install.

WHere is the instruction for update so I can keep all my settings intact?

Just replace the update file over your old files; it will update some of the old files in the xampp folder and add new files. Meanwhile, your own htdocs and mysql databases should be left alone by the update.
