Error starting xampp/apache service

Hey guys,

I have been experiencing a very annoying problem with Xampp Apache lately on my local machine. The problem is, whenever I try to start the apache service in my xampp control panel, I receive a message - Apache Started [Port 80] however, the service never fully starts, and the 'running' message never appears next to it. I'm new to the forums here but I figured it would be the best place to ask.

I am running windows vista.

I have the same problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it doesn't work. This didn't really start until I added Tomcat. I can start MySQL and Tomcat, but the Apache does exactly what you said....it says it is started, but it never shows up as running, while the other two do. This is the only thing that shows up in the error log.

That's probably the case. I recently had the same problem after installing the internet game "Aika" from gPotato. It seems that its updater process blocks the port 443. Maybe other gPotato game software does the same. The Updater runs (at least with Windows Vista) as an autostart process!
