Can't get mySQL or Apache to work

HI,
i'm running win7 ultimate with xampp 1.7.3 i can get tomcat, mercury and filezilla to work as services, mySQL will work when not installed as a service however Apache won't start at all, i have tried a port check and they're open and not in use,

any advice would be great thanks!

i think you are facing a similar problem which i had or rather i was having.

(its a little bit lengthy but it will definitely clear your mind..of what is stopping apache to start normally.)
