server rejected the connection

Hi,
I attempted to start phpMyAdmin. All I get is this "phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection".

You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

How do i do this.

What version of XAMPP and which Windows OS?

Is Apache and MySQL showing a green running indication in the XAMPP Control Panel ( XCP )?

How are you trying to start phpMyAdmin?

Can you access http://localhost and see the XAMPP Welcome Demo Page?

Do all the demos work?
