When I try to send email from Mercury, it crashes, can anyone help?

What version of XAMPP and which Windows OS?

Impossible to help without more details about your issue and what you are trying to do exactly.

Have you configured Mercury correctly for your needs etc.
Do you really need a full blown mail server on your LAN?
Does your ISP allow a mail server on your home connection?

Any error messages?
Any clues in the \xampp\MercuryMail\logs folder?
Any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?
Any clues in the Windows Event Viewer?
Etc.etc.
