Please Help!!! 1.7.2 to 1.7.3 upgrade confusion

Postby wrecker69 » 03. January 2010 20:08

Hello Apache Friends,

I have searched this forum for an hour or so looking for info on upgrading my XAMPP installation. I am upgrading from 1.7.2 to 1.7.3. All the different posts that I have read all have some other types of issues and are not, or don't appear to be, specifically just for 1.7.2 to 1.7.3. This is my first upgrade so please forgive my ignorance.

I downloaded the upgrades package, in .zip format. Reason being is that I read somewhere that there seems to be less issues when installing this way. After extraction there are 16 items. 11 folders, 3 .txt files and 2 other files, a setup_xampp.bat file and a xampp-portcheck.exe file.

Please correct me if I am wrong about the procedure.

First, after making a backup copy of my C:\xampp folder, I copy and paste the 16 items (text files also?) into my C:\xampp folder. Correct? Then I need to double click the setup_xampp.bat file? After which everything should be good to go. Right?

I did originally make some changes as far as security of the install is concerned. The changes that I made I got from http://robsnotebook.com/xampp-security-hardening and although the posts publish date is from July 6th, 2007 everything seemed to work fine afterword.

I am turning here for help as this is the place to go for XAMPP info.

Thanks in advance

Richard, after you copied over the upgrade files into C:\xampp and selected to overwrite existing files then you should run the setup_xampp.bat file and answer the questions, usually the default selected answers are sufficient.

Normally an XAMPP upgrade will not replace your existing configuration files.

Any other issues with the upgrade?

XAMPP Home Page wrote:As with the add-ons, install the upgrade directly into the XAMPP directory (e.g. "C:\xampp").
And you must also start the setup script "setup_xampp.bat".

OOOPS! One more slight bit of confusion. It seems that when I check the "Status" page it is saying that the first item, "MYSQL Database" is deactivated yet in the control panel it says that it is running. I even used the 'mysql_start.bat' file before turning it on in the control panel and it still says "Deactivated". Any ideas?

Thanks, Richard

Richard, seems you may have set a password for user pma that may have caused this issue.

There is a possible fix here:
