phpMyAdmin character set question?

Postby piperazine » 27. December 2009 10:49

Hello,

Just a quick question about the dropdown character set menu when importing a database in phpMyAdmin.

Ive noticed that the menu options here list lots of 'iso-8859-x', 'windows 125x', etc options which is not the same as the online demo from phpMyAdmin.net where they list more understandable names (to me at least) like greek, hebrew, latin1, latinx, etc.

I ask because I'm working through some tutorials which have the same menu options from the phpMyAdmin.net demo and I need to select 'Latin 1' which is not on the drop down list on my version. Ive got xampp 1.7.3 installed on XP.

I'm very new to all this so any help on this would be great.

Thanks

Is your Google out of order?

When I enter "Latin1" (simply!) into Google, I get ten(!) hits in a row, which all lead to "ISO-8859-1".

I'm sorry, I wasnt too clear on this.

I understand that iso-8859-1 is Latin 1. I was more concerned with why this list is different from the phpMyadmin.net demo and the tutorial I was working through (which uses xampp 1.7 I think)

I was worried that something might not be configured correctly.

thanks
