apache won't start on vista

i've installed xampp on 2 different computers with no avail. apache will not run or stay running for more than 1 second. filezilla and mysql run perfectly fine. i'm hoping somebody out there might be able to help me with my problem. thanks.

First, read the
\xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues.

Are you sure that IIS 7 is not running (run inetmgr.exe et check to be sure) If IIS running stop it (stop button) and run Apache again
