Security Settings - advice anyone please..

When I did the test to see the localhost Internet Explorer came up with a message about changing to Intranet level security settings - I said Yes - but now I'm concerned that the security for accessing the internet could be jeopardised. Can anyone give any advice about this please? Can I change these settings? Will XAMPP still work?
