XAMPP's Apache Won't Start

Postby globex » 17. October 2009 21:28

Hello,

I just installed XAMPP on my Windows 7 machine, however when I try to start Apache it says "apache is not started..." and I get the following error in the apache log:

(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down

What does this mean and how can I resolve the issue? My Windows Firewall is disabled.

Thanks.

I found the issue. It was because of Skype.

In Skype I went to Tools > Options. Then under Advanced > Connection I uncheked "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections" and after that Apache started without problem.
