I downloaded Xampp1.7.1 and went through the
process of installing until the very end, got a message:

"Installation failed. Port 80 and Port 445 are currently in use."

I clicked okay several times and the message kept coming back.
Finally, clicked okay again, and message changed to Installation successful.

But when i open the Control Panel , the list says:
"Apache started (Port 80)"
Both Apache and Msql are running and lit up green.

I'm not sure if the installation was sucessful or not,
because of that first message that said installation failed, port 80 already in use.
So, i have uninstalled and reinstalled Xampp three times and everytime I get the same error,
installation failed .. port 80 in use"

I have checked everything and as far as I can tell nothing is using port 80.
I don't have a firewall, and I don't use skype.
Only thing i can think of is I do have my AVG antivirus on, but
I'm not sure if that would use Port 80.

I'm not sure if the installation was sucessful or not,

Can you access http://localhost XAMPP Welcome pages?

Sometimes it helps to configure your AV to allow XAMPP's components or temporarily disable until you have XAMPP installed.

Also check your Windows firewall is not interfering.
