Dissappearing checkboxes in Joomla 1.5.14 & PHP 5.3.0

Postby vonankh » 15. October 2009 23:49

There seem to be a problem with PHP 5.3.0 running Joomla 1.5.14. In the administration back-end, many checkboxes in the tables dissapear. Apparently (I have not tried) a downgrading PHP helps. See:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 64&start=0
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 07&start=0

I am running the latest XAMPP 1.7.2 installation with:

PHP Built on: Windows NT 6.0 build 6002 (Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2) i586
Database Version: 5.1.37
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.3.0
Web Server: Apache/2.2.12 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.12 OpenSSL/0.9.8k mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.3.0
Web Server to PHP interface: apache2handler
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.14 Stable [ Wojmamni Ama Naiki ] 30-July-2009 23:00 GMT
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

This could potentially be a very serious problem, considering all Joomlas out there! Anyone have any suggestions??? Or did I miss something?

A forum search for joomla may have come up with why you should install XAMPP 1.7.1 PHP 5.2 until a Joomla version that is compatible with PHP 5.3 is produced - there may even be a hack in the search results.

Well, I don't speak German and the info I have found so far in English is not saying much more than I am. So why don't you just post the relevant links, or provide some specific help, instead of being "besserwisser" about it. Second, this is such a serious problem it should have been stated clearly in the FAQ or the accompanying info on: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

A hack would of course be the best, so why not post it!??

[edit] More specifically, instructions how to downgrade PHP without completely having to remove everything and re-installing Xampp would be nirvana.

Upgrading/re-installing to Joomla to 1.5.15RC (Release Candidate) should do it!

Download here: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/

Read more about it here:
Re-install: http://community.joomla.org/blogs/commu ... -1515.html
Patch: http://community.joomla.org/blogs/commu ... p-530.html

Please put this on your XAMPP info page! Thanks & Good Luck!

First you should learn how to use a simple forum search facility and to do this perhaps you should have READ first the forum announcement, which you obviously did not.

Had you searched correctly and taken the time to READ the results you would have found that this had been discussed many times here in the XAMPP for Windows in English forum and being a first time poster your really should have read the above announcement, as advised, before letting off steam.

Second, this is an XAMPP for Windows forum not a Joomla forum and as such you were given free advice for your Joomla issue when in fact you were quite out of order and off topic duplicating your Joomla forum post here in the first place.

Thirdly if your attitude is the same the next time you post in these forums then it is quite possible that you may well be ignored by those here who volunteer their free time to try and help those genuine forum members who have an XAMPP for Windows issue.

BTW this is not a such a serious issue for the multi-millions of other XAMPP users in general who may choose not to use a third party out of date script but for those who do choose to use an old Joomla script then they would have been quite aware, after visiting and READING the Joomla forums, of it's PHP 5.3 limitations.
