Access to phpMyAdmin denied

Immediately after installing XAMPP I tried to login to phpMyAdmin to set up a MySQL database. When using either the MySQL ADMIN button or typing in the URL http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ I get:

MySQL said:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

It appears that MySQL has been installed with a password.

Can anybody help?

BTW I looked at "\xampp\phpMyAdmin\config.inc.php" and this has no password.
I see there is a "resetroot.bat" file in the "mysql" folder. Will this fix the problem?

Solved problem myself by deleting files from previous attempt at loading Apache.
