When I cliclk on phpMyAdmin the message is server rejected connection.. because the user and/or password were incorrect and that I should check on my configuration. How do I find the onfiguration. An aside, I unistalled the php and reinstalled it but the user name problem remained

from your XAMPP start page go to the link that says "phpinfo()". if that opens for you then php and mysql are working correctly. i had the same probelm and what i did was move the contents of the phpmyadmin folder into another folder.
that may not be the best solution but at least i can administer mysql without issue.

I uninstalled xampp,
So you have also deleted the complete XAMPP directory?
BTW:
and reinstalled it
You are talking about which XAMPP version?

You ask me, how to delete files and folders with explorer in Windows?
Well, if you can't see a folder in explorer it doesn't exists, so it's deleted.

I agreed with Wiedman if you do not see any files that means it is deleted already.

I had some remnants of an independent MySQL program remaining. When I deleted them, the xampp uninstall, reinstall was successful. But I still don't know where the config files are for future editing when needed
