Help installing with Home Server 2003

Postby Jspafford » 31. August 2009 05:38

Hello,
I am trying to install XAMPP to run along with my home server. Here is my issue. I am trying to install a phpbb forum. I cannot get something to work properly. Then I found this program.

My issue is I am using IIS6 and already have two website running from IIS6. When I type in //localhost/ it takes me to the main website I am hosting on my server.

Is there anyway around this? I cannot configure mysql, which is the only program I think I need because I cannot connect by typing in http://localhost/phpmyadmin/.

Hope this makes sense.

Would this solution work? Would mysql be able to follow the port changes and still run the database correctly?

A way around what?

Or an other question:
Why have you installed XAMPP, if you already have a running IIS? You want deinstall the IIS webserver?

Here is my problem. My HP Home server uses IIS to do most of it's online stuff. I have to have IIS installed. It uses it to do it's thing. I am having issues getting mysql/php to install correctly in IIS. I am trying to host a phpbb forum.

First time I tried phpbb3 forum did not see mysql installed, only mssql.

I insalled php and mysql seperately and got to the phpbb install screen. But mysql was not recognized by phpbb3.

I read for about 2 days on the internet trying various 'fixes', and now it has another error.

All I really want to do is install or configure something so I can run a Phpbb3 forum. I could care less what the program is, but apparently no one makes something that is simple.

I've used xampp before on a home pc, but being as this home server I have relies on IIS, I cannot turn it off.

I am having issues getting mysql/php to install correctly in IIS.

a) MySQL must not installed in "IIS". It's a separate Server. Just install it with the installer. Try a connection with the "mysql.exe" command line tool.
b) what's your problem with installing PHP in IIS? IMHO the PHP installer is doing all necessary things. So you should be able to see a testpage with phpinfo().
--> in your case, just make sure that you enable the mysql/mysqli extension (you can verify the loaded extension with phpinfo().

If both is working, you can install other software like phpmyadmin or a forum software.

If you want use Apache and IIS on the same box, you must change the listening port from one of these servers.
