Xampp Control Source code

Postby nat32support » 13. August 2009 22:01

Please note that the source code for all xampp-control versions I wrote is freely available under these links:

http://www.nat32.com/xampp/xampp23.zip
http://www.nat32.com/xampp/xampp24.zip
http://www.nat32.com/xampp/xampp25.zip

The current 1.7.2 control utilities (xampp-control, xampp-cli etc) were written (I think) by Carsten Wiedmann.

Perhaps Carsten can publish the sources too?

Chris.

Is this XAMPP-CONTROL.exe ?

If so, I noticed a day or two ago that when I change HTTPD.conf to

Listen 8080
ServerName localhost:8080

and restart Apache from XAMPP-CONTROL.exe that when I hit Status it still shows
Apache on port 80, even though I can connect via http://localhost:8080/mypage.php

Is that what you get ?

I'm using XAMPP 1.7.0

I'd like to second that request. I'm glad nat32support has released the source for the old utilities, but what about the current utilities?

Perhaps more importantly I think XAMPP should have a clear and transparent policy regarding the licensing of the install/config and control utilities. I see the install/config files are released under a BSD license as is xampp_cli, but where is the source code and what is the license for xampp-control and other binary files?

EDIT Sun Oct 25 07:42:26 UTC 2009
After a bit more investigation it looks like most xampp utilities (e.g. xampp_cli, xampp_start, etc) are now licensed under BSD, however xampp-control indicates it is Copyright © 2007 NAT Software, Germany.

Is there any chance that xampp-control could be released under the BSD license and where can the source code for the BSD licensed utilities be dowloaded from?

Chris, thanks for taking the time to publish your source! Yes, I see that I'm not the only one looking for the latest XCP source, and it seems that Chris (the original author of the code from http://www.nat32.com) even asked to have the latest code published back to the community in August of 2009 (almost over a year ago).

I'll at least "sixth" that notion of requesting to have the source code made available, it sure would be nice if Carsten Wiedmann would please take the time to publish the latest 2.5.8 and 2.6 XCP source code. At least just take the time to publish it here in the forum, or at least make it available to us so that it can be posted to the SVN.

At least a simple response from Heir Weidmann ( Carsten Wiedmann ) would be appreciated, even if it was a simple:
"Go suck donkey nuts, because I'm a selfish gnome that eats my own source code and doesn't share it with anyone else."

But at least we'd have a response. ;-)
