htdocs and rootdocuments question

Postby Angahran » 04. August 2009 20:25

Hi,
I'm new to xampp.
I have a done a quick search and didn't find an answer so I'll ask here.

Is it possible to have 'MY' webpages in a different location to the 'xampp' pages ?
At the moment I have i have a folder : z:\beta-1.7.2-1\xampp\htdocs

This folder has the xampp webpages in \xampp
and my webpages in \mydocs

What I would like to do is create a common folder for my webpages : z:\htdocs\mydocs but keep the xampp pages in the version specific folders, so beta-1.7.2-1\xampp\htdocs\xampp

This way I would only need one copy of my pages but could access them from whichever version of xampp I was running.

Is this possible ?

and my webpages in \mydocs
..
create a common folder for my webpages : z:\htdocs\mydocs

So you want access your own webpages with "http://localhost/mydocs/"?
--> create an Alias in "httpd.conf".

Ok, I have the alias but I'm obviously missing something else.

I added the line:

Alias /mydocs /beta-1.7.2/xampp/htdocs/mydocs

Edit: that wasn't the line I added, what I added was:

Alias /mydocs /htdocs/mydocs

But when I try to access the page I get:

Access forbidden!

Alias /mydocs /beta-1.7.2/xampp/htdocs/mydocs

Is there also a <Directory ...> block for this directory?
