Setup XAMPP on a USB drive (non-boot) Windows;Vista;Ultimate

Postby rgeorge137 » 20. July 2009 17:12

I installed XAMPP on my E drive (USB non-boot) so as to eventually use Joomla. Tried the http://localhost/Joomla per instructions but got file not found message. Does XAMPP have to be installed on the c: drive (boot drive)? If not what do I have to do to point XAMPP (Apache, MySql, Perl, PHP, etc.) and JOOMLA to the e: drive ? I am running Windows, Vista, Ultimate on a Toshiba Satellite

No.

Can you start XAMPP (Apache/MySQL) and can you access the XAMPP demopage?
Is the demopage and phpMyAdmin working?

I can start XAMPP from my desktop. I can not start Apache or MySQL from within XAMPP.

After I installed XAMPP and Joomla, I used my browser to get to Joomla using http://localhost/Joomla and got the browser message that said the web site was not found. So far lots of wasted time and nothing to show for it.

I can start XAMPP from my desktop.

You mean the "Control Panel" with "XAMPP"?

I can not start Apache or MySQL from within XAMPP.

So if you click on the "Start" buttons, nothing happens?

- Is "Svc" checked in the "Control Panel"?
- What can you read, if you start the servers with the batchfiles?
