Cannot log in to the MySQL server

I secured my "phpmyadmin" by using the security console. However, when I go to log-in to "http://www.example.com/phpmyadmin/" I use my new log-in and password but it throws an error stating: "Cannot log in to the MySQL server" despite the fact that when I created the new log-in and passwords it accepted them. I cannot now figure out the problem as to why I cannot log-in.
I am new to this so if any of you folks could help me out I would really appreciated it.
