Ports 80 or 443 (SSL) already in use! Installation Failure

Installing Apache 2.2 service failure on Vista home premium. I have tried everything including shutting down the firewall and turning off using accounts. I do not have Skype and the IIS is off. When I turn on the port checker in XAMPP it shows that both 80 and 443 are open but Apache will not start and there is a (-1) behind the message that Apache will not start in the XAMPP control panel. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick reply.
The only error message I get is "Ports 80 or 443 (SSL) already in use! Installing Apache 2.2 service failed"

I think I'll just try WampServer to see if that is easier.

try to stop skype if in use
