Set up vhost to /htdocs/newsite
Index.php in newsite <?php echo"hello world";?>
index.php is as plain text sent to the browser.

Xampp directories no problem.

Anyone any ideas?

Nope. Why?

BTW: this vhost is not local; it's accessible from the web.

Screw it. Got WAMP up and running in seconds.
