Problems starting Apache2.2 and mySQL

Postby JAD » 08. June 2009 20:20

Hi, I'm new to the world of XAMPP, so I apologize if this has been covered previously or if I'm just asking a dumb question.

I am setting up a new server, and I am having problems starting both Apache 2.2 and mySQL. I am running XP Home Edition.

I can check the "svc" boxes next to "Apache" and "MySql," and I can also click the "Start" button, but when I do so, I get the "Stopped" status instead of the "Running" status. Here is what I have done so far:

Apache2.2: I have clicked the SCM button, right-clicked on Apache2.2, and chosen "Start." This gives me the message "Windows could not start the Apache2.2 on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer toservice-specific error code 1."

I thought this might be a port issue, but when I ran xampp-portcheck, it says that all ports (80, 81, 443) are "free."

MySQL: I get the same problem with MySql, but a different error message. Specifically, when I try to start MySql, I get "Could not start the MySQL service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly."

Also, according to xampp-portcheck, port 3306 is free.

If anyone could shed some light on what is going on or tell me a solution (or even a workaround) to these issues, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

Can you start/stop without "Svc" checked?

Thanks for the reply. I just tried that, and it doesn't seem to work. Apache still gives the "Stopped" status and MySql gives the "Running" status for about 3 seconds, then reverts to "Stopped."

There is a slight difference in the feedback box. Instead of saying "Apache service started" and "MySql service started," they return "Apache Started [port 80]" and "MySql Started [port 3306]."

Can you start the servers with the batchfiles?

Not possible.

(or you are using the wrong batchfiles)

I'm having an almost identical problem except it's just mySQL that won't run but it DOES run from the batch file..

We need to have the MySQL server running when the computer is logged out - is this possible?
