SSH Into Localhost

I'm interested in learning more about SSH and command line control of a server. I've been doing this though Media Temple with my employers dedicated virtual hosting environment, but that's a bit dangerous

Is there a way to do this with XAMPP? It would certainly be much safer using a local Apache installation. I can't find any forum threads or documentation on doing this. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

XAMPP does not include a SSH server.

and command line control of a server.

On a Wndows server, just open a command line prompt (cmd.exe)

(BTW: The Windows command line is different to a Linux command line. Even you are using SSH for the connection.)
