services won't run even after reinstalling

Ok, I am a newbie here but I am computer literate so you can talk technical with me. Below is a summary of my situation:
Downloaded XAMPP for Windows directly from http://www.apachefriends.org, Installation succeeded and port checking succeeded too. I ran XAMPP control panel from the desktop shortcut icon and the XAMPP control panel dialogue window came up with Apache and FileZilla services running, Mercury service runs perfectly when started or stopped then started. However, MySQL service refuses to start up (error messages: MySQL service not started [-1], Error: -1) as well as Apache and FileZilla failing to do so too if stopped then started later. I cannot access http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.0, this is beginning to be a pain for me because I have reinstalled it about 4 times let alone today. I am running a valid version of Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, UAC disabled. I have installed Apache on both an internal and external hard drive several times. Can somebody please help me, I really want to use this software as it will help me a lot.

By the way: I'm an administrator running the latest version of XAMPP as of when I posted this topic.
