Do I Need XAMPP on server with mysql and php?

Postby Melanie_Hedge » 08. May 2009 00:58

Hello.
I have a "newbie" kind of question.

We have a windows 2000 server already running mysql and php at the level needed for joomla. We have the server set to run IIS for some sites and then we have installed apache for the joomla side and apache is running correctly.

Can I go ahead and install xampp to have it set up what I need for joomla and just not select mysql and php on the installation?

Will this not "mess up" my other sites that are utilizing php and mysql databases?

Thank you.

You can't select this during installation.
And it makes no sense, if you only need Apache. Just install Apache from apache.org (as you already have.)

We have the server set to run IIS for some sites and then we have installed apache

But it's also curios, that you have installed Apache, while you have a working IIS? And now you have 2 webservers running?
