Apache Friends Support Forum

I am trying to get XAMPP for Windows and Joomla running on my desktop, Win XP. I repeatedly received error messages that ports 80, 443, 3306 and 21 were already in use and thus Apache, My SQL and File Zilla instal failed. Nonetheless, a subsequent window stated that xampp installed correctly. I was even able to get http://localhost to produce the window described in the instructions. I closed the windows and when I came back to the computer a few hours later, it was shut down due to a problem. Upon reboot, http://localhost cannot be found. Please try to help.
