Is MySQL running?

(See the control panel, the status page, or the cd demo)

xampp control panel status ... my sql= running

So the MySQL process is running.

What's about the status page and cd demo from XAMPP?
Or, is phpMyAdmin working?

Did you even create the database for Joomla first using phpMyAdmin as per the Joomla installation instructions?

Sharley,
i did not create the database for Joomla first using phpMyAdmin as per the Joomla installation instructions. what i did was, i install joomla right away and i just filled the required information without creating the actual database.

i'll give this a try, hopefully this will work.

thanks

I have the same circumstances and message except that "Status" on XAMPP says MySQL database is deactivated and "Security" on XAMPP says MYSQL is blocked by firewall (FTP and POP3 as well)
I am on a small local network using a DIR615 router which has a firewall.

Can anyone help with this, please ?
