Problems with install...

Postby zrockstar » 31. March 2009 04:29

Hello everyone. I am trying to install XAMPP to run Joomla on, and I can not get everything installed right. I am on Win Vista and when I try to install it, everything installs fine then after the install is complete, when the services come up to install in the command prompt, the Apache install says the port is in use. I used the port checker that came with the install, and the ports are all available. When I try to run localhost, it comes up, but when I try to install Joomla, it gets to the MySql set up then goes to a page not found. If I try to install the Apache service from the control panel, it says it is missing DLL files. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, making sure anything isn't still running, and nothing works. Help please!!! Thank you!

So you installed XAMPP 1.7.0 correctly, is that correct?

After installation was complete you check in the XAMPP Control Panel that Apache and MySQL had a green running indication, is that correct?

After you see that Apache and MySQL are running you then went to
http://localhost
and selected you language and then saw the Welcome Page, is that correct?

You then proceeded to test your XAMPP installation by running the demos including the CD Collection demo to test MySQL, is that correct.

Now lets move on - exactly what detailed error messages have you received when trying to install Joomla?

Please for easy reading of posts do not write everything into a single paragraph - it is hard to understand what you have posted, all jumbled up.

I'm getting the same error message when installing on my windows xp
I can't even get the local host to open xampp
MySQL runs, but Apache doesn't

I've checked the ports and they're open
Turned off the firewall

Any ideas?

Muchas gracias.

What error message is that, in detail please?

Try starting apache with the xampp\apache_start.bat file.

How many times have you installed and then uninstalled and reinstalled XAMPP again?
