My XAMPP services were running smoothly...

suddenly I am encountering a problem...

I am unable to start mysql service with xampp (version 1.7.0)
when i say start... it starts and immediatly i am getting an error message from windows ("mysqld.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.")

and then the service stops....

i tried uninstalling and then reinstalling several times...

i removed registry entries for mysql and even for xampp and then tried...

Got the same result....

Please someone help........

Windows error, then look at the Windows Event Viewer for more detail.

i have the same poblem

i'm using xampp 1.7 on 2 different xp pro installations on the same system
one is working fine and the other allways gives me this sql.exe error

I began having this same problem today. I've cleaned my uninstalled, cleaned my registry, reinstalled, to the same error. I'm in the middle of a PHP/MySQL college course at the time. I'm thinking of trying another WAMP client install or MySQL by itself. It's got me in a tizzie alright.

After uninstalling XAMPP 1.7, I installed WAMP Server 2.0g this aftermoon and it ran great -- including MySQL. I then uninstalled WAMP Server and reinstalled XAMPP 1.7. I continue to receive the MySQL error.

Same problem, can't use WAMP.

Nothing has worked!

Tried editing 'mysql' under 'Services' in windows to allow it to interact with desktop, which was a popular solution, and still nada.

Problems related WAMP should be addressed to a WAMP support forum.

XAMPP is a different package then WAMP.

Were they commenting that they'd tried my solution and it didn't work for them?

UPDATE: I installed the latest version of XAMPP, Windows Version 1.7.1, and everything is good as can be.
