XAMPP problem, I can open 127.0.0.1 but not localhost

Postby hariskar » 03. March 2009 21:52

I try to install xampp and have a problem. When installing I get the problem with ports 80 and 443. I have found no program that uses them. Both servers Apachie and MySql run. I can't open localhost but I can open the xampp page when I put 127.0.0.1 on browser. Why is that? How can I correct it? Thank you!

Port 80 and 443 issues usually means you have Skype and or IIS running and both are using the ports that Apache needs.

Disable IIS in the Windows Control Panel and change the ports that Skype uses in the Skype configuration.

For the localhost 127.0.0.1 issue drag this file into your text editor:
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts

Look for this line:
::1 localhost

Change it to look like this:
# ::1 localhost

Save the file and then try http://localhost again.
