Apache Admin Problem

Postby Cabbage9 » 02. March 2009 03:20

This hadn't happened on my first two installations before but now I'm getting this error:

When I click 'Admin...' for the Apache Module in the XAMPP Control Panel OR enter in http://localhost (or http://localhost/xampp) in a browser I get this:
Image
It's blank! And on top of the browser its title is called XAMPP <?include('.version');?>

Then, when I click on "Security" it leads me to its splash screen.

Then, I click on English. After that I click on the link (http://localhost/security/xamppsecurity.php) when all services are running (when some of them are 'unknown' it leads me to the right page normally as if to fix):
Image
When that page is left on when the error has first appeared it will continue to throw that error box message at me.

I first discovered the problem when I was trying to install MediaWiki:

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled with no luck.
I'm n00b at this. What's the problem? Thank you.

You have a wrong "php.ini" somewhere on your system.

You can invoke the phpinfo() for checking your xampp installation states/parameters /values.

I had the same problem which threw me for a loop.I have XP. In my case the problems were eliminated in two ways, but the easiest was when I added this to my path variable:(my xampp is installed in C:\xampp\...) C:\xampp\php\pear.

You shouldn't have to add this path to the system path variable, if all the .ini files are correct.

(BTW, the first way that I got rid of the problem was by eliminating short tags in the php startup scripts and rewriting the ?logic in one of the php scripts. Although I got xampp to work, I decided that this was not the right approach)

Since then, I've reinstalled xampp again and have not seen this problem again.

@ Cabbage9
You may well be using the wrong php.ini file if you have had another instance of php installed previously or in fact still do have.

Open http://localhost/xampp/phpinfo.php and look for this line:
Loaded Configuration File

It should say C:\xampp\apache\bin\php.ini or the path to your own XAMPP installation.

If the php.ini file is not the one in the apache\bin folder then find that php.ini file and any more php.ini files you may have on your system and either delete them or at least rename them, then look once again in the phpinfo.php file and see if now you get the apache\bin\php.ini file indicated and if so then try again to access your localhost.
