Can't get MySQL to work

Hello everyone,
I uninstalled old XAMPP with high hopes of new shiny environment.
I DLed latest XAMPP 1.7.0 with installer and everything seemed to go nice. However, when I try to open localhost no connection to server. XAMPP control panel says: Status check ok, but not Apache nor MySQL is started. Click on Apache gives "Apache service started" but MySQL "ERROR: MySQL service not started [-1]".
Trying mysqlstart.bat doesn't seem to do any help "InnoDB: log sequence data in ibdata files doesn't match, InnoDB: Database was not shut down normally, crash recovery etc. etc."
What should I do all php's in readme_en.txt? Something I should have thought before uninstalling? Like backup - I have my Joomla backup but it doesn't help here, eh? Shouldn't I be able to make fresh DB, install Joomla backup and get on finding other things to do wrong?
Or should I try XAMPPlite as I'm not really using XAMPP for anything special...
I'm pretty much lost here
