PHP $_SERVER['REMOTE_USER']

I'm trying to implement a "single sign on" using only the NTUSER required at our DOMAIN. All stations have XP instalations and I've instaled XAMP (Xamp Control Panel 2.5 - 9.May, 2007).
When I try something like that (PHP)
$x = $_SERVER['REMOTE_USER'] I don't receive nothing.
Can anyone help me (perheaps with a topic allready solved)
