XAMPP for Vista - Mozilla Beta 3 Query

Postby pav1 » 03. February 2009 12:23

I have followed the installation guide exactly for the current version of XAMPP - when I enter http://localhost/ to check installation I am unable to see anything other than 'Done' in the tab and a blank page (I use Mozilla Beta 3). Is this the correct way to view a successful installation? I want to use Joomla to create web pages and their documentation states this is the correct way to check installation - the control panel is working fine - or appears to be!

i am a newbie and quite happy to be patronised - you cannot be too simple with me ....

Thank you

I don't believe the browser makes any difference but try it in IE.

What does the xampp\apache\logs\error.log have to say about it, if anything?

Your supposed to see the XAMPP Welcome page.
the control panel is working fine - or appears to be!
What makes you think that?

What do you see when you go to:
http://127.0.0.1/index.php
http://localhost/xampp/index.php
http://localhost/index.html
http://localhost/phpmyadmin

Remember, we can't possibly see what you see so we rely on you relaying as much detail as possible.

BTW since when is Joomla an authority on how to test XAMPP, surely the readme_en.txt file item 3, also the XAMPP Home Page and even the XAMPP FAQ would be more authoritative, would you not agree?

Hi Izzy, and thanks for your reply. Ok, I have tried all the urls you mention on both Mozilla and IE - with Mozilla I get a 'Done' report and no views of anything - with IE I get a 404 error 'Page Cannot Be Found' report.

I assumed that the XAMPP Control Panel is running because when I click it in the start bar I can see that MySQL is running - however I just noticed that there is an error report that says the Apache service is 'not started -1'. The Apache and Filezilla check boxes are both checked.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought Joomla were experts, and I apologise if it sounded like I did - the installation instructions for Joomla have a section on downloading and installing XAMPP, that is all and it was those I was referring to. I wouldn't be here asking for help if I thought a third party application had the answers :D

I am grateful for your help and will now go and look at the readme txt file.

If you have any further thoughts I'd be grateful to receive them, btw.

Many thanks

Paul

I've just checked the readme.txt - using the mySQL and Apache batch files I got no listening socket for Apache.

For mySQL the error log reads ' error 32 might be in use by another application' although I can't think what that might mean?

The control panel now shows no item running - not sure what to do now ...

Again what does the xampp\apache\logs\error.log have to say about the file not found error, if anything?
Copy and paste the relevant parts not the whole log file.

Are you logged in as an administrator and is UAC turned OFF so you can work with a web server, run batch files and install and uninstall services?

Run xampp-portcheck.exe in the xampp folder as an admin and see if all ports are free, if not what is using the ports?

Try and start Apache by running the apache_start.bat file in the xampp folder and paste here any error messages that are displayed.
