XAMPP: Apache and MySQL will not start...

Postby nutkenz » 26. January 2009 22:52

I'm running Vista and the latest version of XAMPP. I've tried running Apacha and MySQL as services, which resulted in nothing happening when I started them through the control panel. From the Windows services overview, trying to run them manually resulted in a generic error.

When I try to run Apache normally (not as a service) through XAMPP control panel, nothing happens and the errors.log remains empty. When I press STATUS, then I see both processes as Start 1 but Process 0. Trying to use apache_start.bat results in a "Apache 2.2 is starting" dialog which doesn't change...

Anyone have any clue what's going on here? I've tried restarting the PC too btw.

I'm running Vista

UAC is disabled?

I've tried running Apacha and MySQL as services, which resulted in nothing happening when I started them through the control panel.

Together with services, you must start the CP as administrator.

apache_start.bat results in a "Apache 2.2 is starting" dialog which doesn't change...

At this point Apache should work. (Check your taskmanager.)

To disable UAC go to
Start>Control Panel>User Accounts
there you will find an option
Turn User Account Control on or off
just click on it and uncheck
User Account Control to help protect your computer
click OK.

This link will show you how to become a super admin in Vista.
