Apache installation problem error code 1

I am trying to install XAMPP, but it gives me an error message about port 80 or 443 during Apache installation. I went to Windows log file and that was the message there:

The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> (OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> no listening sockets available, shutting down
The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> Unable to open logs

I would appreciate if somebody had a similar problem and could give me an advice how to solve the problem. Also I run cmd and it said: TCP 0.0.0.0:80 state listening PID 3308.

Thanks in advance,
Galini

I went to Windows log file and that was the message there:

The message is clear: You have already another webserver running.

Also I run cmd and it said: TCP 0.0.0.0:80 state listening PID 3308.

Stop the programm (webserver) with the PID 3308 and you can start Apache.

I'm guessing you're either running Server 2003 or Server 2008.

I'm not familiar enough with either, but do a search on what services with the one you're using uses those ports and then go in and turn them off. Windows Servers have a built in server called IIS or something like that and that could be what's doing it. I personally am using Server 2003 on my server and I didn't have any problems. I don't ever look at that computer, it just sits there and runs. I remote desktop it if I need something such as to restart Apache or start a program on it.

But yeah, do a search on what uses those ports for whichever version you're running.

Right click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager>Processes tab.
Look for the column PID then find that process number which will tell you what that process file name is.

To get rid of it temporarily, as it will load again next boot, click on process to select it then click the button End Process then OK.
Try again to start XAMPP installation.

Usually you will have IIS (inetsrv.exe Windows Webserver) hogging port 80 and 443 which can be disabled from the Windows Control Panel or search the forum for some alternate methods of disabling, or Skype can be using port 80 and that can be changed in Skype's Tools>Connections menu.

What does the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file have to say why Apache can't start?

(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

I have check with process explorer and can find nothing running port 80. Here is the log from Process explorer, sorry for the poor formatting.

Skype.exe 2268 0.75 Skype Skype Technologies S.A.
I see Skype is running which may be using the port.

Close Skype and see if you can start Apache.
