Can avoid or modify HELO Host in e-mail headers?

Postby jluna » 31. December 2008 04:35

Hi there,
I have a site on line ( and it already send e-mail using php mail function. It works OK.

Apart, I have a local machine sending e-mail using SMTP (, it also uses authentication and all works OK.
My problem is, that I read here ( ... -helo.html) about unnecesary use of HELO statement, and even worse using localhost as HELO identity. So I need to change localhost to something like blad-net or (I own this domain too) or if this can't be done then I need to stop sending "Received: from [] (helo=localhost)
" and "Message-ID: <kcpjtd.h71@localhost>" on my e-mail headers becouse some ISP blocks this.

Here is the complete e-mail headers:

Return-path: <>

MIME-Version: 1.0
Subject: Reporte de avances en el envio [12/30/2008 13:03:13 PM]: cid=5102
X-Mailer: BLAD-COMP Bulk Mailer
From: Contacto BLAD-COMP <>
Content-Type: text/html; charset="ISO-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Message-ID: <kcpjtd.h71@localhost>
Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2008 14:44:22 -0600

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Are you using fake sendmail to send the email from your php scripts or simply the smtp section in your php.ini file?

In other words how are your php scripts configured to send email?
