I get "Apache HTTP Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." when I'm trying to install Magento 1.1.8 on latest XAMP 1.7.0 [Apache 2.2; MySQL 5.0; PHP Version 5.2.8] on XP Pro SP2.

I followed the tutorial videos at http://ipicdg.com/EC/Contents.html to get as far as I did.

I've checked out "Installing on Windows with XAMPP and WAMP" but there are no obvious conflicts when I go through that material. I can't get any further with my install. Any help much appreciated.

There are a few very recent post with a similar issue and in one of those post it even mentions a possible reason for it by one of the developers.
