I have Vista and cannot open localhost after I shut down computer. I set up XAMPP and everything ran fine including creation of a website on the localhost. Now I get message when I try to open using Explorer "localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Webservice" with this computer". Thanks for help.

Did the answer you received from this forum not fix it?
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=429&t=353366
You say this issue is fixed it in a reply you made in that forum.

Make sure Apache has started and IIS is disabled in your Windows Control Panel.

After rebooting use xampp-portcheck.exe to see if all ports are free before starting any XAMPP components.

Use apache_start.bat file to see if any errors are received why Apache is not starting - you may have to right click and select Run as administrator on both these files I mentioned.

I also have the same problem. I cannot get http://localhost/ to open. I tried xampp port check and port 80 and 443 are open. The problem that I have is that the setup_xampp.bat file and apache_start does not work. For the first file it says You do not have access to the file specified. and the second file clicking on it does nothing visible. Thanks in advance.

I installed the folder on c:\xampp but then it created another folder named xampp so all of the files are stored in the path C:\XAMPP\xampp. Is this wrong?

yes.
Read the readme_en.txt file Quick Installation section it tells you to install to the highest level on your drive which is C:\ then it will create C:\xampp.

Also this information is there to be read on the Apache Friends web site where you downloaded XAMPP from.

Thanks sharley for telling me about the readme_en.txt file but I already went through that. Now I moved the files to c:\xampp but when I open setup_xampp.bat there is a Windows error saying You cannot open the file specified. I think it might have to do with user rights though I am logged in as admin.

Hi!
Process in use in memory.

Close the session and open again, the process should be free.

There should be 1 folder Xampp !

hi,
I have followed the instructions from www.ipicdg.com for installing xampp.
everything seems ok.
control panel is running and showing apache, mysql and mercury running.
when I type in http://localhost i got "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"
I pressed diagnostics and the message is
"localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port 'world wide web service(http)' with this computer"
I installed xampp in c:\xampp.
I did not reboot my pc.
I have vista.
stopped and started apache - did not help.
any advice what I need to check.
thanks
