Application Exception in WinSQL

Hi

(In English)
I have given myself a new laptop and now I want to install XAMPP, just I have on my older laptop.
I have installed XAMPP 1.6.8 installed in D>=XAMPP. So far, so good.
But when I try to edit the http.conf file in the Apache directory (I want to set up some Aliases to point to directories outside my webroot), and I use the XAMPP Command Panel to switch the Apache and MySQL servers off and on to activate my changes, I am unpleasantly surprised by an Application Exception in in libmysql.dll, trying to execute an instruction at memory location 00000000. The exception keeps popping up every 10 seconds, so the entire system is completely taken up by that. As MySQL has been installed as a service, the error keeps returning after reboot. The only remedy I have found is to rename the DLL, uninstall XAMPP and restart the system.

All this has happened several times. I have also tried to find out if the error was related to the XAMPP version, but the same thing happened when using vs 1.6.5. Could this problem have to do with the fact that I installed on D rather than C? If not, does anyone have any clue what I could do to get XAMPP running, including the edits I want to make to the config file?

Schönen Grüß, Best Regards

- Close the program WinMySQLAdmin.
- Remove it from the Autostart folder.
- Don't use it anymore.

May I assume that removing WinMySQLAdmin will not make my installation useless? If so, it might as well be taken out of the XAMPP-package ...

You assume correct. It's just one tool to configure your MySQL Database. There are much better tools out in the Internet. In XAMPP included is phpMyAdmin (http://localhost/phpmyadmin). With PMA you should be able to do nearly everything that is necessary. Also you can download some GUI-Tools from MySQL for free if you prefer Standalone Applications.

I also would prefer this. There are a lot of posts here in the forum just related to this program.

I agree with glitzi entirely - even if it is removed from the XAMPP Control Panel with the Admin... link being replaced by a link to phpMyAdmin may well be sufficient to ease the huge volume of support requests that are generated because of this deprecated and now useless inclusion.

Which Autostart folder are you referring to?
I have found the EXE and renamed it, but now I would like to update the Autostart folder, but I cannot find it within the XAMPP environment.

Or would you be referring to the Startup folder (WinXP [EN-GB]) in the C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup directory?
I assume you do because it is there that I find a hyperlink to the WinSQLAdmin program. Which I now have removed.

Thank you for your assistance ....

Ah, right. That's what I mean. ("Autostart" in a German Windows).
