MySQL Start Error.

Postby Big_Adam » 10. November 2008 14:32

Good Day,

I'm just starting out learning PHP and MYSQL and I'm having allot of trouble with XAMPP in general.

My current problem is MySQL.

I had MySQL running and phpMyAdmin all running then I wanted to just add a root password so I did so via the Xampp page ( and now I can't get MySQL running.

I get an error of "ERROR: MySql service not started [-1]". I've check windows service manager (I'm running Xp Pro Service Pack 3) and the service points to:

I've had a look and that prog (mysqld-shareware.exe) doesn't exist.

I really don't want to un-install as I've had this error before, I'd much prefer to fix it.

Any help on the matter would be much appreciated.

Strange, did you install an MySQL Version by yourself?

To resolve this problem, do this with administrative rights:

First stop all running Parts of XAMPP if possible. Then stop the MySQL-Service if possible. Then do this:

Start -> Run -> cmd.exe

Then execute this command:

Code: Select all
sc delete MySQL

Now you can install MySQL again as an Service and start it.

Hi glitzi,

I think I installed it as a service, ah! Heres the thing I followed:

I would like to install the MySQL server as a service!

Do only work under with NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
(1) Service installation: Under /xampp/mysql double-click on the "mysql_installservice.bat".
(2) Service uninstallation: Under /xampp/mysql double-click on the "mysql_uninstallservice.bat". That is all!

Taken from : ... l#services

Also, done the CMD code. Comes up as:

[SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

So, something tells me I've screwed something up here.

SQL is working again, now all I need to do is get onto phpmyadmin.

Curse my want of a password.
