Question From A Novice Re: MySql

Postby Jesse Perry » 08. November 2008 22:58

Hello, I recently picked up Web Development Solutions: Ajax, APIs, Libraries, and Hosted Services Made Easy by Christian Heilmann and Mark Norman Francis. On their recommendation, I downloaded Xampp. Apache runs, but I can't get MySql activated. When I select phpMyAdmin, I get the following message:

phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

Error
MySQL said:

#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I turned off my firewall per the FAQ recommendation, but the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated. Apologies for the basic question, but I'm just now getting into this form of development. Thanks!

That'a a fresh installation without any changes or tests (especially with MySQL)?

Yes, I installed Xampp, but did not make any changes to any of the files or settings.

I am also on Windows XP, SP2... I turned off my firewall, re-started comp. Apache runs fine, MySql shows as running for a couple of seconds, then stops.

Running a port-check, I get the following:

Service Port Status
-------------------------------------------------------
Apache (HTTP) 80 C:\xampp\apache\bin\apache.exe
Apache (WebDAV) 81 free
Apache (HTTPS) 443 C:\xampp\apache\bin\apache.exe

MySQL 3306 C:\data\wre\prereqs\mysql\bin\mysql-nt.exe

FileZilla and Mercury are both free.

MySQL 3306 C:\data\wre\prereqs\mysql\bin\mysql-nt.exe

That's not the MySQL server from XAMPP...

Damn.

I tried to delete that folder, but access is denied, not even sure who downloaded that folder. Any ideas on how I can delete it?

This server is running. And you can't delete files which are in use.

Any ideas on how I can delete it?

Stop this server (taskmanger) and you can delete this folder. (BTW: it's enough to stop this server. You must not delete it.)

not even sure who downloaded that folder.

IMHO it's from a WebGUI Contentmanagement installation...
