Installing xampp

When installing xampp, I come across, what appears to be a fairly standard error. Ports 80 or 443 are in use.

I did the xampp-portcheck.exe search to see what program was using the 2 ports. It turns out that inetinfo.exe from the System are using the ports.

I'm not sure if I can disable that w/o destabilizing XP. Nor am I computer savvy enough to figure out where to put the DTX in xampp to make it all run properly.

Ideally I'd like to just have xampp install itself and run the way it's supposed to. I'm trying to install joomla so that I can create my website.

Any suggestions for an apparently software illiterate person can do?

Thank you in advance.

That's the Internet Information Service (IIS), Webserver from Windows.

Thank you for the reply,

I understand that the inetinfo.exe is the internet information from the OS; but is it SAFE to disable it without destabilizing the rest of the OS?

Again, thank you for your time and interest.

Well, it's an additional Windows Component, and I can't know why you have installed it (and if you use it for anything).

(IIS is not necessary for a working Windows, it's just a webserver like Apache)

Why inetinfo.exe is on my PC...

The inetinfo.exe is installed because it was automatically put there by XP when I first built up my PC.

Until yesterday, I didn't know that it was even on my PC, let alone that I needed to know that it was there. [/quote]
