MD5 Checksums Do Not Match

I have downloaded XAMPP for Windows 1.6.8 [Basic package] Installer dated 2008/09/28 twice and the MD5 checksum has been the same on both downloads, using Visual Hash and MD5Summer, but does not match the one listed on the XAMPP for Windows page at Apache Friends (9fe3b33e571ee57d02cb5ebdc888865f).

Please verify the published checksum.

Thanks.

Hi,

i downloaded the Win-Version right now to my Linux-Server and md5sum gives this output:

Code: Select all
9fe3b33e571ee57d02cb5ebdc888865f  xampp-win32-1.6.8-installer.exe

That's exactly the same Checksum as noted on the AF-Website.

Thanks, glitzi.

You're on Linux, I'm on Win XP SP2 - any possibility that checksums could be different because of OS? Also, what size (in bytes) does your server report for the file? My Windows machine says :

Size: 37.5 MB (39,362,474 bytes)
Size on disk: 37.5 MB (39,362,560 bytes)

Later today I'll try downloading on a different machine & network and from all the download mirrors available to see what I get.

I have the same.

Download from Bologna, Italy (Garr) at 2008-10-08 16:57:34 (GMT +2):
Code: Select all
C:\Temp>md5sum xampp-win32-1.6.8-installer.exe
9fe3b33e571ee57d02cb5ebdc888865f *xampp-win32-1.6.8-installer.exe

C:\Temp>

@WBW Which mirror are you using?

Thanks, Wiedmann.

Both of my downloads came from http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net (New York, New York) which is also SourceForge's "direct link". This time I'll try from the San Jose, California, mirror at http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net and let you know what the results are.

Update:
Following up on my topic MD5 Checksums Do Not Match, I've discovered that the XAMPP 1.6.8 Win Installer (.exe) file available from the New York City, NY, USA mirror at http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net generates an MD5 checksum (3362dfcf4e91d8d5ce62685bbbbcbbed) that does not match the one published on the Apache Friends website (9fe3b33e571ee57d02cb5ebdc888865f). It does, however, appear to install & run properly on a Win XP SP2 box. I've downloaded from this mirror twice at home and once at school, and all three times it yields the same MD5, so this is not an error in my downloading.

The download available from the San Jose, California, USA mirror at http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net appears to be good and yields the correct MD5.

Comparing the file sizes, the one from San Jose is 39,359,986 bytes while the one from NYC is 39,362,474 bytes.
