How to install/add a PERL module?

Postby xamppnewbie » 15. September 2008 15:19

I would like to add to my XAMPP installation a perl module (e.g. NET::Ldap).

I know how to do it on a Linux box (using CPAN or YUM), as every Linux installation comes with a complete PERL support package.

But on my Windows XP workstation, I only have XAMPP installed. I noticed that it already comes with the basic perl.exe:

C:\server\xampp\perl\bin>perl.exe --version

This is perl, v5.8.7 built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread

Has anyone, with XAMPP only installed on his/her Windows system, managed to add a PERL module?

If so, how do I do this?

Thanks!

No. You must at least install the XAMPP Perl AddOn (or have installed e.g. ActiveState's Perl)

Wiedmann, thank you so much for your quick reply!

You are basically confirming my intuition, but I wanted to get the advice of the XAMPP gurus before installing something that cannot be undone easily (Windows is known for that :)).

My concern and questions relate now to a possible conflict between the fully pledged PERL package (i.e. ActiveState's Perl) and the one that comes with XAMPP:

For someone who needs PERL for running only through XAMPP (a PHP scripts that invokes a PERL script), which approach is preferable? the XAMPP Perl AddOn? or ActiveState's Perl?

Sorry but if you tried both and ONLY the add on worked for you then you did something wrong and it wasn't xampps fault. My post above yours clearly says I use ActiveState so I guess that means it works with xampp. Please try not to give people doubts over something you couldn't figure out.

>>Thread OP --ActiveState works fine with xampp you have to install it into the Perl Folder inside the xampp folder (delete everything in the perl folder 1st)

w4vy, thank you for your tip.

Do you happen to know whether this ActiveState 5.10.0 Build 1003 works with every XAMPP version?

My XAMPP version is pretty old (1.4.16) due to a requirement by a different software package that I need.

Is ActiveState 5.10.0 Build 1003 compatible with XAMPP version 1.4.16?

Thanks!
