i installed xampp 1.6.7 for windows, using winxppro sp3.

cant figure out why it look for C:/xampp/htdocs/xampp/htdocs
when its to look for C:/xampp/htdocs

i have not edited any files

I am having a similar problem.

I am trying to add a phpbb forum and when i go to [http://localhost/phpbb/install/install.php] I get this:

The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.

You should either tell us where you installed the Board or post the error.log file from apache.

i installed the board where the page I was using said to.

# Go to the Start menu -> Apache Friends -> XAMPP -> XAMPP httpdoc folder -> and create a new folder called phpbb where you will copy the uncompressed version of phpBB you downloaded.
# Finally, go to http://localhost/phpbb/install/install.php and follow the instructions.
# Enjoy using phpBB on your own computer. You can use it just like you would if it was installed on a "real" web server. Install MODs, styles, make tweaks, and more.
# When you are done with XAMPP, go back to the control panel and click Stop next to Apache and MySQL and then click the Exit button to remove XAMPP from memory.

There is no file "C:\xampp\htdocs\phpbb\install\install.php" on your HD and so the URI "http://localhost/phpbb/install/install.php" can't work.

I have found that the install.php is called install_install.php When I change the url to show that it shows no error but just sits there and the bottom of the browser says done

Thanks all for the trouble you have gone to. I found thatthe file I should be accessing is the index.php

I have changed that and voila, it works
