Changed http.conf and now all pages come up blank

Postby Whippy » 02. September 2008 09:10

OK, this is almost certainly my fault - I was following http://rudyegenias.wordpress.com/2006/0 ... -in-xampp/ to try to enable mod_rewrite and get my local site working the same as some of my remote ones.

I made a back up copy of the file. After trying to restore the file I now see -
Apache service started
in the control panel when I start apache but the 'running' icon does not appear.
When I try any valid http access the page comes up blank (e.g http://localhost/xampp/

Its bizarre that this is happening when I restore the http.conf that I backed up...

Not to be outdone, I downloaded the zip and extracted a nice clean new http.conf and put that in the folder.

Same problem :(

It seems that something happened when I tried to AllowOverride or enable the mod_rewrite has killed xampp with a vengance.

I'm not a big fan of completely reinstalling without knowing what is going on. Anyone any ideas?

Configuring xampp in windows XP for mod_rewrite

Postby Whippy » 02. September 2008 23:20

Replying to my own post with progress...

After a full shutdown and reboot (restarting XP did not cure the problem), Apache now runs with the mod_rewrite working.

However, it is throwing exceptions periodically (they don't seem to kill it and I've not seen any other symptom yet) -

Unhandled exception at 0x00da8493 in apache.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x6e9c6e8c.
