Lost xampp pasword in windows

Postby jazsnap » 18. July 2008 12:28

I've forgotten my password to log into Apache Administration in Windows xampp control panel. Can anyone give me instructions on how to reset or retrieve it. Obviously I have physical access to the machine.

Thanks, Jase

I rolled out OCS (Sourceforge asset management web app which is bundled with xampp) a while ago, but due to time constraints was unable to finish the project off, hence forgetting the password.

I've since discovered the password due to good old fashioned trial & error but it would be nice to know how to recover the password for the future if anyone can enlighten me?

TIA, Jase

I got the same problem.
I'm using XAMPP
I can access to phpmyadmin but not to the XAMPP webpage because I've lost the password to it
I tryed the default one (root user with a blank password) and it doesn't work.

Any way to reset this password or retrieve it.
Otherwise I will have to uninstall and reinstall everything -- which I don't want to do because of the usage of my website...

thanks.

To remove the passwor check just remove the .htaccess in C:\xampp\htdocs, the users/passwords are saved in C:\xampp\security\xampp.users. Normally the passwords are encrypted, but clear text password will also work.

I had the same issue. I could view my site but not the xampp site. This is what I did I went to c:\xampp\security\xampp.users I opened that file using NotePad++ I then located my username (this is not encrypted)

It looked something like this

admin:$70fjh403jfsu969jjpor46478&

then just delete everything except admin:

then without a space just type in plain txt what you want your password to be and save

Viola! refresh localhost and you are done

 Viola! yet another zombie computer in the making.

I wonder why XAMPP admin passwords are encrypted in the first place as according to our experienced first time forum posting zombie creation expert floogerbomb this would seem to be a total waste of time and so not required ?

Readers, please don't do this.

I do hope he will not post anymore of these dangerous and insecure Viola! ideas to make our new inexperienced XAMPP users vulnerable

BTW why bring a 2 year old topic back to life?

Maybe a better solution would have been more helpful.
And maybe a link to the 2 years old topic.
